Art Statement

The best way to describe my art is to say I recreate dreams. They are the dreams I had, will have, should have, will never have.... dreams that are part of me and they are the dreams that take me home or those that bring my home to me!

My deepest source of inspiration is my spiritual connection to my ancient homeland, Iran and my rich Azeri heritage. What nourish my art are my treasured early year’s memories. With a haunting undertone of yearning and loss, my memories contrast my lonesome vision, my sadness and my hope in life in a Westernized society. Missing the magical and bejewelled colours of Eastern homeland and striving to reach outside the passive confines of the western culture I search for utopia.

I adhere to the notion of a free spontaneous style to reflect the sense of glory I feel, capturing the moment; I work rapidly to seize deeply felt emotions, and I then investigate form. I am greatly influenced by the decorative art form of Islamic art and art of ancient Persian miniature paintings.

My art and style is stamped with my strong yet vulnerable personality as a self-exiled woman with a great sense of loss, wandering and alienation. I do not tend to deal logically but rather fantastically with my position. To fulfill my unease I use metaphor and storytelling. Its result is manifested in a child-like sensibility, a new reality and self-affirmation.
